Kids and Immunity: 4 Tips for boosting your child’s health this winter







Winters for parents, clearly means the Cold and Flu season has arrived for their little ones… It is possibly the worst nightmare for any parent to see their kids weak and sick with a running nose – And a weak immune system is all we are left with to blame. But before we get into that, let’s just have a clear explanation of what exactly an immune system is.

|The immune system is the body’s defense against disease such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and other invaders. It is made up of a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect your body and cells are known as leukocytes. These are the cells which attack the germs and save us from illness|

  • Serve more balanced diet

To maintain the health and immunity levels in kids, a balanced and nutritious diet needs to be a part of their daily routine. They should be encouraged to eat cruciferous vegetables or carrots, green beans, oranges, strawberries, etc to boost their immune system and should learn to say yes to the healthy stuff rather than junk. If you are not a vegetarian, then can try including poultry, meat, fish, egg, etc and minimize their intake of sugary treats like chocolate, cakes, and cookies. These foods should be tagged as an occasional treat-food only in order to promote proper diet and avoid any sort of diseases or infections.


  • Good Sleep time

It is essential for the growing kids to have a proper night sleep routine. Generally, when kids don’t get good sleep, they tend to get cranky very easily. So, ensure the wellness of their sleep by diminishing all sorts of loud noises during bed time and making sure that the room is dark with dim or no lights on etc. This is essential to help the sleep hormone, melatonin, to secrete and lead to uninterrupted sleep while the room is dark.


  • Calm their stress and anxiety

Stress and anxiety are the two words, which fuses child’s mind and body a lot. In today’s fast-paced world, most of the kids are overstressed or over occupied with things which lowers their immunity at times. It is important for kids to have some their me-time, in which they can do things according to their own wish such as play with friends, take a nap, indulge in imaginative play etc. We personally think, these little things give them the space they want and increase their happy hormone levels while boosting their immunity.


  • Supplements to boost immune function

A variety of supplements which are helpful to spark your kid’s body such as zinc, vitamin D, fish oils, and probiotics etc., should be consumed by kids during their early years of development to boost the immunity. Consuming a good diet leads to higher energy levels and boost the kid’s immunity to a greater extent.
